PTI condemns unprovoked Indian aggression on the Line of Control and Inflammatory role of Indian media

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf has noted with growing concern the deteriorating situation on the line of control (LOC) in Kashmir. In the last few days there have been repeated cases of aggression by the Indian Army resulting in the martyrdom of Pakistani soldiers. This unprovoked aggression by Indian forces is against the spirit of the peace process initiated between the two countries and is condemned in the strongest possible terms. Chairman PTI Imran Khan expresses his deepest sympathies with the families of the martyrs and prays that may Allah give them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
The role being played by the Indian media in manufacturing stories of beheadings of Indian soldiers to further inflame public opinion in India was also noticed with concern by PTI. At a time when every effort should be made on both sides to exercise restraint such a role by the Indian media is inflammatory and counterproductive. The Pakistani media on the other hand has played a more responsible role and while critical of provocations by the Indian army, exercised restraint in its discourse.

In fact, said Shafqat Mahmood, Central Information Secretary PTI that “in recent times the most hawkish role on relations with Pakistan is not being played by India’s political class but by its armed forces aided by strident rhetoric in most part by the Indian media”. This is an unfortunate developments, he said, and a serious danger to the success of the on-going composite dialogue between the two countries.

Paying tribute to the valour of the Pakistani soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the nation, Chairman PTI Imran Khan has advised immediate contact by both sides through established channels of communication to ensure that the tense situation on the LOC is diffused. The Pakistani government, he said, should also strongly take up the matter of unprovoked Indian aggression through diplomatic channels.

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf is of the considered view that peace and normalization of relations between India and Pakistan is essential in improving the quality of life of people in both countries. The focus has to be on economic and social development because South Asia has globally the highest number of people living below the poverty line. To change this unfortunate equation, PTI believes, the governments of India and Pakistan have to play a proactive role in diffusing tension and moving towards dispute resolution. The time for that is now.
