The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will hold a rally from Regal Chowk to the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on April 25 to marks its founders’ day, while PTI Chairman Imran Khan will undertake a one-day tour of the city on May 3 for a membership drive.
This was announced by PTI Central Executive Committee (CEC) member, Zubair Khan, at a press conference on Thursday. He said that in view of the prevailing law-and-order situation, especially with reference to “all this talk about the Taliban entering the city,” Imran Khan will hold a meeting with his party workers to discuss the situation.
He said an atmosphere of fear was prevailing in the city and a conspiracy was being hatched to push the city towards the May 12, 2007, situation. Imran Khan, whose entry was banned in the city two years ago, said that he would revisit the city no matter what the situation.
Although the authorities concerned, he said, had expressed reservations over his coming but being a peaceful party, the PTI would not take the law into their own hands. Zubair Khan said it was the responsibility of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led government to maintain peace in the city and if it failed to do so, it must reassess its alliance with the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
He expressed concern over the threatening statements being issued by the Taliban and said that the tripartite PPP-MQM-ANP alliance must take note of the situation otherwise they must quit the alliance if they fail to provide protection to the people.
